What this is

Fresh Landed is a checklist for people moving to Berlin. It covers the practical stuff: registering your address, opening a bank account, getting health insurance, setting up a phone plan. In the order you actually need to do it.

Most of this information exists somewhere online, scattered across official websites in German and Reddit threads from five years ago. We pulled it together, verified it, and organised it so you don't have to.

Who made it

We moved to Berlin ourselves. We made the same mistakes everyone makes: going to the Bürgeramt without an appointment, opening a bank account before having an IBAN ready for direct debit, not realising the Steuer-ID would just show up in the post.

This site is what we wished existed when we arrived.

How we make money

Some of the services we recommend have affiliate programmes. Bank accounts, health insurance brokers. If you sign up through a link on this site, we may earn a small referral fee from the provider. You pay nothing extra.

We only link to services we'd recommend regardless. Our criteria: is it the right choice for most newcomers? Is it genuinely cheap or free? Is it the path of least friction? If a better or cheaper option exists and doesn't have an affiliate programme, we link to that instead and note where the affiliate link is.

We mark every affiliate link clearly with "(partner link)" so you always know.

What we don't do

• We don't recommend something because it pays better commission.
• We don't bury the cheap option to push a paid one.
• We don't use dark patterns, fake urgency, or invented social proof.
• We don't track you with cookies or sell your data. We use Plausible Analytics: cookieless, GDPR-native, aggregate page counts only.

Keeping it accurate

German bureaucracy changes. Prices go up. Offices move. We date every task with a last-verified timestamp and update when things change. If you notice something out of date, let us know.
